Seven hurt in blast at TC candidate's gate

Imphal, January 10 2012:
At least seven people including two women sustained injuries when a powerful bomb exploded at the gate of Trinamool Congress candidate of Thangmeiband A/C Kh Joykishan at Khuyathong Polem Leikai today evening.
The incident occurred at around 5.30 pm today where the bomb fitted at the bottom of the welcome stand went off.
Out of the injured seven people, five are non-Manipuris, who happened to be around the gate when the bomb exploded.
The injured victims have been identified as Adhikarimayum Dasumati (65) wife of A Bishambhor of Khuyathong Polem Leikai, S Mangi (40) son of Leibaklei of the same locality, Bhola Gupta (30), Amini Shaha (35), Om Prakash (25), Keku Choudhury (50) and Bibi Shaha (30), all hailing from Bihar but staying in rented houses of the locality.
They sustained injuries on their necks, earlobes, cheeks, legs and hands.
All the injured have been admitted to RIMS hospital where the doctors said that they are out of danger.
Soon after the explosion, Additional DGP V Zathang rushed to the spot and conducted an investigation.
When asked about the rising attacks on candidates and political workers and the security measures taken up by the state Police Department to prevent such unwanted incidents, V Zathang told that the matter is being discussed with the DGP at the highest level and MR as well as Central Para Military personnel are being deployed at every nook and corner of the state to curb election related violence.
Necessary security arrangements are also being taken up to counter mounting bomb attacks on candidates and political workers.
According to Joykishan, the bomb attack was carried out to create panic and confusion among his supporters.
But the people of Thangmeiband will face all such threats for the sake of bringing about a change in the constituency, he added.
Recently, some miscreants set on fire an election office opened on his homestead.
Meanwhile, unknown persons hurled a hand grenade at the home of Congress candidate of Andro A/C Md Ahmad Ali at Yairipok Ningthoumanai.
Police later recovered the bomb.
In another incident, a hand grenade was found at the courtyard of one Thokchom Ghanashyam of Lamlai Makha Leikai today.
Ghanshyam is said to be a worker of CPI MLA Pheiroijam Parijat of Lamlai A/C.Police have retrieved the grenade.
On the other hand, police today recovered a hand grenade from the house of Executive Engineer of Electricity Department Tongbram Ibochou at Sagolband Thingom Leikai.
The bomb was suspected to have been hurled by some unknown miscreants in the morning today.
In the meantime, the house of Heirok A/C MLA Moirangthem Oken at Heirok Mayai Leikai came under attack of unknown persons at around 7.10 pm today.
VDF personnel posted there opened fire some rounds when they heard the explosion.
One Moirangthem Wamo (68) of Heirok Part 2 Pujari Chuthek sustained injuries in the explosion.
