Kangpokpi, October 09 2025:
The Joint Monitoring and Development Committee (JMDC) IT Road (Kangpokpi to Tamei) has expressed concern and outrage over the continued neglect and non-execution of the sanctioned road project and demanded prompt corrective action.
According to a press release issued by Ngamralbou KT Chawang, general secretary, JMDC, the work order for improvement of Kangpokpi to Tamei Road, popularly known as IT Road, was awarded to one Gaikhangthai Panmei.
The road improvement work covered a stretch of 70.25 km.
However, it came to public notice that only about 13 km from Govajang to Tamei was partially and roughly repaired, while the larger stretch from Kangpokpi to Govajang continued to remain untouched.
Causing more alarm to JMDC, nearly 70% of the sanctioned amount was allegedly released even as the condition of the road remained deplorable.
JMDC has claimed that the situation points to a serious lapse in accountability and possible misuse of public funds.
Today, the IT Road has become unmotorable, causing untold hardship to commercial vehicles, passenger carriers, and daily commuters.
Transportation of essential goods, medical access, and public mobility are all being severely hampered.
Villagers, traders, students, and ordinary citizens continue to endure immense suffering due to the Government's "inaction and neglect" .
Highlighting the importance of the IT Road, JMDC said it is one of the most vital highways in the State covering and serving four constituencies - Kangpokpi, Tamei, Tadubi, and Saikul.
In view of these circumstances, JMDC has appealed to the concerned authorities and the Government of Manipur to take immediate corrective action.
It maintained that the responsible work order holder should be directed to complete the project in its entirety and in strict compliance with the sanctioned scope.
Accountability must also be fixed for the prolonged delay, negligence, and wastage of public funds.
In case of persistent inaction, the JMDC will be compelled to lodge a formal complaint with the competent authority and pursue all necessary legal and administrative remedies to protect the rights and welfare of the public, it said.
In the press release, Ngamralbou KT Chawang also firmly stated that the IT Road can no longer remain a symbol of neglect, corruption, and official apathy.
The Government must act with urgency to ensure transparency, accountability, and timely execution of sanctioned works, in the larger interest of connectivity, public welfare, and regional development, he said.
