Imphal, June 09 2026:
The Special Court (POCSO), Imphal West, today granted interim pre-arrest (anticipatory) bail to the Headmaster of Kendriya Vidyalaya no 1, Lamphel, in connection with an FIR registered at Lamphel Police Station, Imphal West.
The anticipatory bail application was filed by Heisnam Jugindro Singh (60), son of late Yaima of Keirenphabi Mayai Leikai and presently residing at Type-III, B9, Lamphel.
According to the application, the petitioner is serving as the Headmaster of Kendriya Vidyalaya no.1, Lamphel.
He stated that he recently came to know about allegations circulating on a WhatsApp group of former Class XII students of the school, claiming that he had behaved inappropriately with a Class IV student during 2015-16 .
Counsel for the petitioner submitted that the petitioner learnt about the registration of the FIR only recently and contended that he had been falsely implicated in the case.
The counsel further argued that the allegations could be a fallout of an altercation between students of Classes XI and XII that occurred in September-October 2025 .
It was also submitted that some students involved in the incident had been suspended for several months and that the petitioner was a member of the school committee which dealt with the matter.
The Court noted that the offence alleged in the FIR falls under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, which carries a maximum punishment of five years' imprisonment.
Observing that the petitioner's apprehension of arrest had a reasonable basis, the Court granted interim anticipatory bail till the next date of hearing.
The Court also called for a bail objection report from the Officer-in-Charge of Lamphel police station, returnable on or before June 17, 2026 .
The Court directed that, in the event of his arrest by personnel of Lamphel police station in connection with the case, he shall be released on interim bail upon furnishing a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh with one surety of the like amount.
The Court further imposed conditions that the petitioner shall cooperate with the investigation, shall not influence prosecution witnesses, and shall not leave the State without prior permission of the Court.
