Governor launches State IRCS website

Governor Anusuiya Uikey launched the website of Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch (www.redcrossmanipur.org) at the closing function of the month-long celebration of World Red Cross Day, 2024 today.
The event was organised by IRCS, Manipur State Branch under the theme "I give with joy, and the joy I give is a reward" and held at IRCS Manipur State Branch office at MG Avenue, Imphal, said a statement issued by the Governor's Secretariat.
The Governor also released a souvenir to mark the occasion.
During the ceremony, the Governor handed over prizes for various competitions consisting of cash, mementos and certificates to the winners.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor, who is also the president of State IRCS, highlighted the selfless humanitarian services rendered by the World Red Cross Society.
Volunteers of Red Cross society concern themselves with the welfare of the needy, the elderly, the hospitalized and the physically challenged, she asserted.
She mentioned that through its commitment to providing humanitarian assistance, the Red Cross Societies reaches out to over 200 million people each year.
Its field of action covers human distress in all its forms.
On the occasion of World Red Cross Day, the Governor also paid homage to Sir Jean Henry Dunant, founder of Red Cross and joint recipient of the first Nobel Peace Prize as the world celebrates his birthday, May 8, for giving the world such a noble organization.
She also expressed gratitude to Red Cross volunteers for their efforts.
Governor Uikey further lauded the selfless activities of IRCS, Manipur by reaching out to IDPs in relief camps in all affected districts and distributing essential relief materials.
It may be mentioned that as part of the celebration, the IRCS, Manipur organized a series of events during the month of April namely first aid training, written quiz & recitation competitions, programme on voluntary blood donation, blood donation at Blood Centre, JNIMS and RIMS, painting competition, folk song competition of school and college students and meeting with the leaders of CSOs, student organizations, meira paibis and various local leaders.
Dr RK Nimai Singh, vice-president, IRCS, Manipur State Branch; Narendra Ningomba, chairman, IRCS, Manipur State Branch; Athokpam Nabachandra, secretary, IRCS, Manipur Branch and other members of the Society also attended the program.
