29 cadres of different UG groups give up arms

In yet another incident of UG cadres joining the mainstream, 29 cadres of various UG groups today gave up arms and surrendered to the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order, Manipur Police V Jathang and General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Binoy Poonnen in a home coming ceremony held at the headquarters of 57 Mountain Division, Leimakhong.
The ADGP, Law and Order, V Jathang along with Major General Binoy Poonnen, Brigadier KB Chand, Deputy General Officer Commanding, 57 Mountain Division, Commander 73 Mountain Division, Commander 27 Sector AR and Deputy Commander 44 Mountain Brigade accepted the arms presented by the cadres during the ceremony held today.
The decision of these cadres, which included seven cadres of NSCN (Khole), six cadres of NSCN (Khaplang), seven Cadres of FGN, three cadres of PULF, two cadres each of UNLF and NNC and one cadre each of NSCN (IM), and KYKL to give up arms, was facilitated by 3 MAHAR, 9 MADRAS, 25 AR, 33 AR and 11 AR of the Red Shield Division.
Welcoming the cadres, ADGP (LO) V Jathang appealed to the cadres of various UG groups operating in the North Eastern states especially Manipur to come back in the national mainstream by giving up arms and leading a normal live.
Government is also taking up many initiatives enabling them to settle into a normal and peaceful life.
Speaking on the occasion the Major General Binoy Poonnen, GOC Red Shield Division praised them for their courage and wisdom in choosing to become responsible citizens of the state and contribute to progressive realization of People's peace aspiration.
He assured them all assistance in their rehabilitation process.
He reiterated that the security forces on their part would continue to encourage all such endeavours by all insurgent groups, both collectively and individually and shall continue to act as a facilitator in their rehabilitation and thence in their emergence as responsible citizens of the state.
An important aspect of the ceremony was a commitment given by a very senior functionary of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) about their decision to suspend operations with a view to join the national mainstream.
He declared that his organizations shall bear faith and allegiance to uphold sovereignty unity and integrity of the country.
The 29 UG cadres surrendered along with two AK 47 Rifles along with three magazines and 95 live rounds, two AK 56 Rifles along with four magazines and 328 live rounds, two 9mm Carbine, one M 16 Rifle along with two magazines and 159 live rounds, one M 22 Rifles along with one magazine, two 303 Rifles along with one magazines and 47 live rounds, one 7.62 mm Rifle along with one magazine and two live rounds, one Lathode Grenade Launcher, 12 9mm pistols along with six magazines and eight live rounds, four 7.65mm pistol along with three magazines and five live rounds, one Chinese made Hand Grenade, one Motorola Set and one Kenwood Set.
