Imphal, June 07 2024:
In the wake of the devastating flood triggered by Cyclone Remal which left a trail of destruction in many districts of the State, the Manipur Naga Youth Organization (MNYO) has appealed to the Government to provide adequate relief materials and financial assistance reflecting the enormity of the calamity which had befallen the people.
In a release, MNYO said that the widespread flood triggered by Cyclone Remal has taken a heavy toll of human life and property in the State.
The MNYO also highlighted that the condition of the affected people in the relief camps and shelter homes are deplorable due to the lack of basic needs, medical facilities and other necessary items.
The MNYO appealed to the authorities concerned to install mobile public utility facilities in the areas where a large number of affected people are concentrated since they could not return to their respective homes or localities.
The MNYO also urged the Government to arrange a mobile medical team to constantly monitor health check ups along with necessary medicines to prevent possible outbreak of tropical diseases.
Taking serious note about the reports of vandalism and theft by unknown miscreants taking advantage of the prevailing disaster of flood in vacated houses, the MNYO cautioned all not to engage in such anti-social activities when the whole State is battling to contain the disaster caused by flood.
The MNYO also urged the Government to implement stringent measures to prevent robbery and vandalism from the vacated houses and properties by unknown miscreants during the flood recovery period.
The MNYO conveyed its appreciation to all the local youths and clubs who have volunteered to assist during this difficult time, as well as the Churches and their leaders who have provided relief materials to relief camps.
The MNYO also sought the attention of the Government on various issues such as lack of embankment work along river banks and drains; inadequacy of waste management system; frequent collapse of bridges, etc.
The MNYO appealed to the Government and authority concerned to carry out a detailed survey and assessment of the properties damaged by Cyclone Remal and consequent flood in the hills and valley alike for immediate necessary action.
"Based on this detailed survey reports of damaged properties, the Government should take up adequate relief measures and compensatory action to address the grievances of the people affected by the devastating flood", it added.
