Bishnupur, December 06 2025:
As part of PM SHRI (Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India) Scheme, a career counselling programme was held today at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bishnupur under the theme "Thinking Beyond The Box: Way out For Distraction Among Adolescents" .
The programme for Class VI to XII students of the school was organised by the faculty of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Bishnupur and Navodaya Guardian Association.
As a resource person, Professor Dr RK Lenin Singh, Department of Psychiatry, RIMS Imphal educated the gathering about ADHD (Adolescent attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) which is often taken lightly by teachers.
Kids with ADHD should be treated with love and kindness.
Efforts should be made to detect the disorder in the early stages so that proper treatment can proceed swiftly.
Otherwise, many bright children with high potential can end up taking the wrong path, said Dr RK Lenin.
Commenting on the increase in suicide rate, he attributed some of the causes to career pressures from parents, teachers or themselves, heartbreaks and impulsive thoughts.
The implementation of NEP 2020 has introduced a credit based system that focuses not only on academic education but also extra curricular activities.
Teachers and guardians need to guide students toward their interests and avoid putting too much pressure on them, said the HOD.
Addressing the teachers of the residential school, he said that they must assume the role of both parents and teachers and be role models to the children.
During the second part of the counselling session, students of the school interacted with Dr RK Lenin.
