Imphal, October 06 2025:
The Maring Students' Union (MSU) has voiced deep resentment and serious concern over reports that a group belonging to the Khoibu tribe - seeking separation from the Maring community - plans to organize a festival on October 7, 2025, at Khangshim village, a model settlement developed by the Maring community as a centre for collective growth and future development.
In a strong statement issued on Monday, the MSU termed the move "regrettable," describing it as the handiwork of certain vested individuals driven by personal ambition and greed for position.
The Union alleged that these individuals are misleading the people in the name of a separate tribe and engaging in continuous lobbying with the Governments of Manipur and India, as well as the GPRN, for separate recognition.
"This deliberate attempt seeks to distort history, divide the Maring people, and undermine the unity and integrity of our community," the MSU stated.
Such divisive acts not only mislead but also insult the sacrifices and contributions of our forefathers who have preserved the Maring identity through generations, the MSU added Reiterating that there is absolutely no gain in breaking away from the Maring fold, the Union warned that such actions only sow the seeds of confusion among the youth.
"We take this as a direct challenge to the collective unity and identity of the Maring tribe, values which we will defend at all costs," it added.
The MSU further asserted that if certain individuals now claim to belong to a different tribe, they should refrain from holding their proposed celebration within Maring ancestral land.
Any attempt to conduct such events within Maring territory, it warned, would be regarded as a "provocative and unacceptable act" .
Cautioning the organizers of the October 7 event, the MSU urged them to avoid any action that could disturb peace and harmony in the area.
"Should any untoward incident arise as a consequence of their deliberate disregard for this public notice, the entire responsibility will rest solely upon the organizers," it stated.
