Imphal, July 06 2024: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit Manipur on July 8 .

This will be his first visit to the State as the leader of the Opposition, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president MLA K Meghachandra.

Speaking to reporters at Congress Bhavan this afternoon, K Meghachandra said Rahul Gandhi has already visited Manipur twice during the conflict and this time, he will visit Jiribam, Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Imphal.

Meghachandra said Rahul will fly from Delhi to Silchar, and reach Jiribam by road.

He will meet Congress leaders in Jiribam and then return to Silchar airport to fly to Imphal.

From the airport, he will reach Churachandpur and then to Bishnupur and Imphal.

During the visits to the district, Rahul will meet displaced people staying in relief camps and enquired about their conditions.

Further, he will likely meet Governor Anusuiya Uikey, said Meghachandra.

During the press meet at Congress Bhavan, CLP leader Okram Ibobi said Rahul Gandhi visited Manipur in June, 2023 and even launched Bharat Jodo Yatra in January this year.

His repeated visit to Manipur shows his concern for the State and the people, Ibobi added.

When Rahul Gandhi launched the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chose to hold an election rally in Manipur in April.

Their negligence and silence on the Manipur issue led to their crushing defeat in the 18th Lok Sabha elections.

People rejected the BJP and the NDA in the elections, Ibobi said.

Manipur, however, has not got justice yet.

Rahul Gandhi has decided to visit Manipur because he cares for its people.

The Congress anticipates a rousing welcome from the people, Ibobi added.

AICC Manipur-in-charge Girish Raya Chodankar said Rahul Gandhi's visit on July 8 will be his first after he became the leader of the Opposition.

This will be his third visit to Manipur during the crisis.

He is bringing messages of love and coexistence, and will denounce PM Narendra Modi-led NDA Government's negligence and injustice to the people of Manipur.
