ZU alleges PREPAK assaulted Gatao villagers

Imphal, May 06: Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) has alleged that PREPAK cadres assaulted villagers of Gatao (Satu) in Khoupum valley of Tamenglong district last month.

Strongly condemning the alleged assault, the ZU in a statement issued today highlighted that the UG cadres thrashed innocent villagers irrespective of ages 'by way of checking the consumption of alcohol and the like'.

further conveying that the UG cadres used to fire indiscriminately in the air/blank fire on many other past occasions as well thereby disturbing tranquillity of the village, the ZU also recalled of an incident on April 22, 2008 wherein the cadres intruded into the house of ZU (Nungba Zone) chairman and tried to kill the chairman's son namely G Gaihemngam.

Calling upon all to exercise restrain and avoid harming innocent civilians, ZU also asked higher authorities of UG group concerned to reign-in and check misconduct of such cadres before the matter snowballs.
