Five SAI STC Imphal athletes selected for Territorial Army

Imphal, April 06 2026: The Sports Authority of India (SAI), Sports Training Centre (STC) in Imphal has expressed) oy as five of its athletes have been selected forjobs in the 165 Infantry Battalion Territorial Army (H&H) Assam, located at Imphal airport.

In the recent recruitment drive by the 165 Inf Bn (TA) for sports personnel, three female athletes and two male athletes from SAI STC Imphal were selected.

This marked the first time female athletes from SAI STC Imphal have been recruited by the TA, with two selected for wrestling and one for karate-do.

Additionally, two male boxers were also selected.

These athletes are expected to continue their training with increased focus for future major competitions.

Maibam Ramani Chanu, Centre in-charge of SAI STC Imphal, stated that the centre is providing a pathway for local athletes to join the Territorial Army, while also offering guidance to focus on the Olympics.

She noted that the success of 5 out of 9 participating athletes is a step towards greater achievements.

The selected athletes are-
Female Wrestling: Khangembam Leichal (Meitram Awang Leikai) and Senjam Chaoba (Sagolband Bijoygovinda Lai Maning)
Female Karate-do: Khangembam Madhusumita (Kumbi Khuga Wangma)
Male Boxing: Yengkhom Bikram (Waikhong Ningthoumanai Uyung Khunou) and Chinglemba (Sugnu) .
