Three arrested with drugs in separate incidents

Imphal, October 05 2026:
Security forces arrested three individuals in two separate operations and seized 138 grams of heroin with Rs 41,000 in cash and 318 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup yesterday.
Imphal East Commandos seized the 138 grams of heroin and cash amounting to Rs 41,000 from a person identified as Hafiz Tapsir (23), a resident of Mayang Imphal Bengoon Awang Leikai.
He was arrested from Sora Bazar, under Kakching police station.
The operation which resulted in the seizure of the drug and the arrest was launched following reliable input about transportation of banned drug items along the Imphal Moreh road, said police.
From Hafiz's possession, the commandos also seized a Honda Activa Moped.
The heroin was found concealed inside the vehicle in 10 soap cases.
Police said Hafiz had collected the heroin number 4 from Moreh for Rs 4 lakh on the instruction of his associate from Thoubal, and was transporting it toward Imphal for further delivery.
Kakching police have taken custody of Hafiz and the seized items.
On the other hand, the 318 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup were seized from three persons in an operation launched by a joint team of Imphal East district police and Central armed forces at Ningthem Pukhri Mapal area yesterday night.
The three arrested have been identified as John Longjam alias Mani (41), a resident of Sagolband Tera Khuraijam Leirak; Longjam Wanglen (41) of Naoremthong Khulem Leikai; and Ningthoujam Henching (29) of Singjamei Oinam Thingel.
The security forces arrested John Longjam alias Mani first and seized 158 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.
The arrest then led the security forces to identify and arrest two other associates, Longjam Wanglen (41) of Naoremthong Khulem Leikai and Ningthoujam Henching (29) of Singjamei Oinam Thingel.
From the possession of Ningthoujam Henching, security forces further seized 160 bottles of cough syrup.
The arrested persons along with the seized cough syrup bottles, one Mahindra XUV and One TVS Jupiter Moped have been handed over to Porompat police station for necessary legal action and further investigation, said sources.
