Chaka bandh suspended

Following an agreement with the State Government, the Chaka Bandh called by the Longmai Pei (Customary) Court and Village Authority has been temporarily suspended for 15 days with effect from June 6 to June 20 .
A release issued by the Longmai Pei Customary Court stated that upon invitation from the Deputy Commissioner, Noney, a meeting was convened on June 4 at the chamber of DC in connection with the proposed Chaka Bandh.
Stating that the State Authority expresses its seriousness over the genuine demands of the people of the Noney district HQ and in view of the recent natural calamities affecting the whole State and the North East, the State Authority represented by the DC Noney, have appealed to suspend the proposed Chaka Bandh in the larger interest of the people.
"Following this, an emergency meeting of the Longmai (Noney) Joint Leadership was held today at Noney Bazar Board Office and decided to suspend the proposed Chaka Bandh, said Gongjai Kamei, secretary of the Longmai Pei Customary Court.
However, if the State authority failed to fillfill the demands within the stipulated period, the already proposed agitation including ban on construction of railways, and other National projects will continue till the genuine demands are achieved, said the Longmai Pei Customary Court.
