Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) felicitated Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and Alfred Kanngam Arthur, who have been elected from Inner and Outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies respectively to the 18th Lok Sabha, the election results of which were declared on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering at the felicitation programme held at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, MP elect Angomcha Bimol Akoijam said that he started a campaign from 2011 for issue-based election in Manipur, which the people of the state witnessed for the first time.
As part of the campaign, slogans for ushering in a new Manipur with new political culture were uploaded on public platforms particularly on social media, he said and appealed to people of the state not to undermine the hard earned new political trend.
According to Bimol, Manipur has a little over 30 lakh population but the play (drama) or the dictate of less than one lakh population is making the remaining 29 lakh population suffer.
However, there will be real democracy when half of the remaining 29 lakh population is awakened and have a people-oriented government, he said, adding that he had never experienced happiness in his entire life on realisation among the people of the real meaning of democracy.
While appealing to politicians irrespective of their party affiliation not try to fool people, Bimol said that people of the state should cast their votes based on issues as in the just concluded Lok Sabha election in the next assembly election.
According to the MP elect, political dynamic is changing both in India and around the globe with its impact also felt in Manipur.
When national media wrongly portrayed the present violence in Manipur to the global audience, the biasness of national media was exposed from his side, he said, adding that he simply took up steps to rectify the mistakes.
He also said that preparations have begun for conducting a survey for socio-economic profile of the entire people of Manipur and policies emerged from such a survey will surely be taken up by the government.
Bimol Akoijam further said that the people of Manipur will witness an MP who works closely with the people and pressurises the government very soon and people should collectively understand what is wrong and what social activities are.
In his speech at the event, Alfred Kanngam Arthur said that there will be no meaning of becoming a public leader if unable to understand sentiments of the people.
A public leader must be genuine and sincere to truth, he said, while adding that Manipur is presently passing through a difficult situation due to conversion of truth into un-truth.
While saying that he hails from Ukhrul and belongs to Tangkhul community, Alfred informed that his three-four generation of forefathers were wrongly portrayed as Kuki, which is not true.
He also assured the people of the state to work together with Angomcha Bimol Akoijam though both have zero experience in electoral politics.
He said that his and Angomcha Bimol Akoijam's success in the election with zero expenditure and zero experience indeed was triumph of truth.
He then thanked almighty God, people and political parties belonging to INDIA bloc for his success in the election.
