Environment related activities dot CCpur on Wildlife Week

CCpur, October 04 2019: The Divisional Forest Office Churachandpur have since yesterday set afoot several activities as part of the Wildlife Week observation even as a massive cleanliness exericse initiated by the ADC Churachandpur took shape the day before Gandhi Jayanti.

The DFO Churachandpur N Ganesh flagged off a rally from the Range Forest Office, Tuibong at 7am carrying the message of wildlife conservation calling on the people to stop hunting wild animals, including the hunting of Rhinos.

Later, a formal function was held at DTC Hall wherein the ADC Chairman T Paukhanlian, DC Churachandpur Pawan Yadav and several other dignitaries planted tree saplings and addressed the gathering.

The ADC Chairman while recalling his childhood memories said he too have hunted in his childhood days as it was a traditional practice of the tribal people, but at the same breath called for shunning the traditional practice with the change of human lifestyle.

The Deputy Commissioner meanwhile asserted that it is human greed that led to poaching.

Meanwhile the ADC Churachandpur have installed nearly 60 sets of wastebins in the town area to collect community waste.

The bin sets consists of one blue and green colour containers and are intended to make way for smooth disposal of recyclable and non-recyclable waste and to ensure the town be clean.

These bins are to be emptied by the ADCs sanitary trucks, said the ADC Chairman T Paukhanlian even he called on the public to make good use of it.

Sources said that the plastic wastes will be utilised by National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) in road construction works.

As the council encourage government departments, NGOs, Clubs, SHGs, Schools etc, to gather plastic waste and handed over to them, more than 2300 kgs have now been piled up at the collection centre, of which about 350 kgs have been taken by the NHIDCL.

The breakup of the plastic waste collected so far are: ADC 194 kgs, 29 kgs by the DC office, 22 kgs by water resource department Khuga Dam, 39 kgs by Kholmun YC, 18 kgs by Lenlai Club, 12.9 kgs by Lamka SC, 4.5 kgs by Hiangtam Lamka Nasem Pawlpi, 68.7 kgs by Rayburn NCC, 19.3 kgs by CCpur NCC, 10 kgs by Bethany NCC, 55 kgs by Thenmuol JBS, 46 kgs by MB Saichang UPS, 44.2 kgs by Lhangjol JBS, 259.6 kgs by Vengnuam village, 104 kgs by Muolvaiphei village, and 93 kgs by Sagang village.
