MMAL stages protest against drone-bombing death at Koutruk

Bishnupur, September 03 2024: Apex body of Bishnupur meira paibi organisations Macha Singgi Mama Apunba Lup (MMAL) staged a protest demonstration at Moirang Keithel today denouncing the drone bombing at Koutruk which claimed the life of a young woman on September 1 .

Many Moirang Keithel vendors and members of different meira paibi organisations from the district participated in today's protest.

Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Jaya Khangembam, joint convenor, MMAL expressed deep anguish over the death of Angom Surbala.

Urging both the Central and State Government to ensure that such incidents do not reoccur in the future, she questioned for how long the people have to live in fear.

Additionally, she questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the killing of Angom Surbala by suspected Kuki militants via drone bombing.

She further called for weapons recovery operations and arrest of criminals to be done in the hill areas as they are carried out in the valley.

The Government should put a stop to all nefarious acts perpetrated by Kuki militants in the hills to wipe out the Meitei community, she added.

The joint convenor further called for removal of AR from the State and expressed stem opposition to arrest of village volunteers dedicated to preserving the territorial integrity of Manipur.

The protestors wielded many placards with messages such as "We condemn the killing of Surbala", "We condemn drone bombing", "Withdraw AR from Manipur" .
