Thiyam Premkumar Award conferred

Imphal, May 03 2025: Sahitya Thoupang Lup has conferred the prestigious Thiyam Premkumar Award 2025 to journalist Iboyaima Laithangbam in recognition of his contribution in the field of journalism.

The award was presented today during a programme held at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, organised by Sahitya Thoupang Lup on the occasion of World Press Day.

The programme was attended by Paomee Welfare Foundation chairman, Ningthoukhongjam Tombi Raj and Akashvani Imphal, Assistant Director, Thokchom Jogendrajit Singh as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Sahitya Thoupang Lup president Tongbram Amarjit said that World Press Freedom Day or World Press Day is observed every year on May 3 to raise awareness about the importance of freedom of the press and recognise the challenges encountered by journalists.

He asserted that the media is often referred to as the fourth pillar of democracy, playing a crucial role in shaping public opinion, driving development, and holding power to account.

"As a powerful tool for progress, it is essential that the press remains free from bias and upholds its duty to inform and educate the masses", added Tongbram Amarjit.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs 10000, citation and shawl.
