Tousem bodies demand immediate resumption of NH-137 work in Tamenglong

Tamenglong, April 03 2026: The Tousem Headquarter Students' Union, along with the VACC, Tousem, has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong district, urging the immediate resumption of the stalled construction work on National Highway-137.In the memorandum, the student body highlighted that the construction of the Tamenglong-Mahur road under Package 5, undertaken by Jandu Company, has remained incomplete for a prolonged period.

The affected stretch covers the portion from 54.180 km near Azuram to 80.630 km near Mandeu.

According to the union, work on this particular stretch has been halted since May 2025, with all machinery reportedly withdrawn from the site.

While construction under Packages 1 to 6 is said to be progressing satisfactorily in other segments, Package 5 continues to lag behind, causing significant inconvenience to the public.

The memorandum further pointed out that due to the ongoing incomplete construction, the existing road connecting Tamenglong and Tousem has been severely affected.

The situation is expected to worsen during the rainy season, making vehicular movement extremely difficult and disrupting daily life in the region.

Expressing concern over the prolonged delay, the union has urged the concerned authority to resume the construction work at the earliest and complete the project within a stipulated time frame.

It has specifically called for the work to recommence by April 10, 2026 .

The memorandum also warned that failure to meet the deadline may compel the public to launch democratic forms of agitation, holding the responsible authorities accountable for any ensuing consequences.
