Importance of "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace" deliberated

Imphal, March 03 2025:
A 1-day sensitization programme on "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013" was held today at the Farmer's Training Hall of Directorate of Agriculture in Sanjenthong, Imphal.
The programme was jointly organised by Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson of MSCW said that the programme was organised to sensitize women on various issues related to workplace harassment and its prevention, prohibition & redressal.
Highlighting the importance of empowering women, she said "Women are essential to society in many ways, and their contributions are not limited to the home and family.
They play a vital role in the economy, in caring for children and elders, and in environmental conservation" .
She asserted that promoting education and healthy lifestyles can help empower women to make informed choices about their lives.
"It is quite fortunate this very department is not facing any issues related with sexual harassment at workplace, and if it happens to have such issues, then the complaint should be brought into the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)", she added.
Elaborating on the various provisions of the Act, she stated that knowing women's rights is a must for every woman because it helps to ensure equality and empowerment for all women.
"Understanding and addressing sexual harassment in the workplace is crucial for creating a safe environment for women and girls", added Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang.
In the technical session, Thiyam Rajkishore Singh, Advocate, highlighted the importance of the "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013" .
Member Secretary, W Phajatombi Devi; MSCW Members Lourembam Dayabati and Sofia Mayon; and Peter Salam, Director Agriculture, Government of Manipur also attended the programme as presidium members.
