Imphal, June 02 2024:
While the flood in Paona bazar has damaged goods including clothing and shoes worth Rs 50 lakh of Manikunj, the owner of the shop has expressed his desire to donate the articles to people in relief camps.
Clothing including shoes of branded companies at Manikunj were submerged under water.
While it can't be sold as new, the clothing can be washed and used, said Manoj Kumar Jain, the owner.
Manoj said he wants to donate the goods to people in relief camps through NGOs.
The ongoing conflict that started on May 3, 2023 between communities has displaced more than 60,000 people.
These people are staying at relief camps across several districts.
Manoj said besides clothing, the flood caused other damages in his shop.
He said computers and other machinery kept at the shop have been damaged.
While insurance companies may or may not compensate for the losses, Manoj said the goods that were submerged can't be sold as new but, it can be washed and used again.
Giving away the clothes, after washing them, would be the right thing to do, Manoj added.
