Bishnupur/Jiribam/Thoubal, September 30 2026: The 130th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was widely celebrated across the State and beyond today.

Paying tribute to the visionary leader and recalling his significant contributions to society were the highlights of celebrations organized by various local clubs and organizations.

Bishnupur

To mark the 130th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot, a variety of events were organised in Bishnupur district today.

Committee on Human Resources Development Thanga organised the 1 st Thanga Kendra Level Patriotic Song and Extempore Speech Competition at Houreng Chingyang Community Hall, Thanga.

LOUSAL Advisor and Plastic Waste Management Expert Waikhom Ananda Meitei; Committee on Human Resources Development Thanga Chief Advisor Ningthoujam Bheigachandra; social activists Uttamkumar Ningthoujam and Russell Heisnam attended as the presidium members of the event.

The birth anniversary celebration of Hijam Irabot was also held at 10 different places under Ngaikhong GP organised by the Rising Club Ngaikhong Khullen, Social Welfare Club Ngaikhong Khullen Awang Leikai, Ideal Club Ngaikhong Khullen and Ngaikhong Khullen Youth Club and Meira Paibis.

The main events include paying floral tributes to the portrait of Hijam Irabot, conducting song, poetry recitation, quiz and painting competitions among others.

In connection with Hijam Irabot birth anniversary celebration, World Meetei Council, Manipur State Unit conducted a drive to clean plastic waste near Loktak lake at Moirang Sendra Road (from Koireng statue till Sendra Hill) on the theme 'Clean and Green Manipur' .

Jiribam

The 130th birth anniversary of revolutionary leader Hijam Irabot was observed in Jiribam district today.

The commemorative event was organized by the Jananeta Irawat Memorial Trust, JIMET.

The day commenced early in the morning with a 'Yakairol' (awakening) procession, during which songs dedicated to the revered leader were played across various locations in Jiribam.

Following the procession, a formal gathering was held at the Irabot Complex in Babupara to pay homage to Hijam Irabot.

Thoubal

Athokpam Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (AMPAL) organised the birth anniversary celebration of Hijam Irabot at AMPAL's office at Athokpam Keithel.

Khangabok AC MLA Okram Surjakumar; village elder Th Dhananjoy and retired Exchange Officer A Bihari attended as the presidium members while retired Headmaster Kh Ibohal attended as the resource person.

Addressing as the chief guest, Okram Surjakumar highlighted the importance of having visionary leaders like Hijam Irabot in today's society amid the prevailing tense situation in Manipur.

A large number of people of Wangjing Tentha AC turned out to participate in the Hijam Irabot's birth anniversary celebration held at Wangjing Hodamba Pukhri Achouba Lampak organised by the Irabot Day Observation Committee Wangjing-Tentha AC.

Speaking at the occasion, Wangjing Tentha AC MLA commemorated the visionary leader and urged all to follow his principles to build a unified society.

The attendees paid homage to Hijam Irabot and observed two-minute silence in the honour of the martyrs of Manipur conflict.

Wayel Kati Chief Editor Hemantakumar Ningombam spoke as the resource person in today's event which was graced by retired ARCS Kh Maniton, retired Selection Grade Lecturer T Babulan, YK College Associate Professor L Bondas as the presidium members among others.

Organising the All Heirok Inter School Literary Meet 2026 and march past competition were the main highlights of the celebration organised by the Social Cultural Educational and Sports Development Organisation (SCEASDO) Heirok.

Former Minister Moirangthem Okendro; SCEASDO president Saikhom Ibomcha Singh and Khundongbam Jayanti Devi of Heirok Municipal Council attended as the presidium members of the programme among others.

In connection with the birth anniversary celebration of Hijam Irabot, cleanliness drive was held at areas under Youth Brilliant Club Ngarouthel while a cleanliness competition was held at Heirok organised jointly by Love Manipur Foundation and Emoinu Heikol Heirok under the theme 'Clean Heirok, Green Heirok'.

A total of 19 local clubs of Heirok took part in the competition.

Meanwhile, poetry reading session and competitions on essay writing, painting and elocution were organised as part of Irabot Day celebration organised by Yairipok Thambalnu Sahitya Marup cum Library and AG Memorial Academy Thoubal Charangpat.

Keirak Gram Panchayat, Kuda Keirak; Leimarembi VLF, Sinthangbabi VLF, Thoungambi VLF, Pandam VLF, Lingjelthoibi VLF and New Model Higher Secondary School, Thoubal Moijing also joined in the celebration.

The 130 th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabat was observed today at the Froebel English School, Kanglatongbi.

As part of the observation, a written quiz competition was conducted for the students to enhance their knowledge about the life, contributions, and legacy of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot.

Extending the celebration beyond Manipur, the birth anniversary celebration was held at Tripura and Assam as well.

Leikol Manipuri Cultural Organisation; Patriotic Writers Forum Tripura; Manipuri Literature and Cultural Forum, Tripura and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad organised a variety of programmes at different places across Tripura.

Meanwhile, Patriotic Writers Forum Manipur (PAWF), Manipur and Manipuri Women Literary and Cultural Organisation (MWLCO), Hojai, Assam in collaboration with the Celebration Committee of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat Memorial Day, Hojaiga organised the 130th birth anniversary celebration of Hijam Irabot at Nandapur Popular Club & Library ground Nandapur, Hojai.
