SIR review meeting held

The second review meeting on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll, with July 1, 2026 as the qualifying date, was held today at the DC Conference Hall in Kakching district.
The meeting was chaired by Electoral Roll Observer for Kakching District, Haobam Rosita, IAS.
Deputy Commissioner/District Election Officer Kakching, Angeline Renita R, IAS; Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Election Officer and representatives of recognised National and State political parties functioning in the district attended the meeting.
Sharing an update on the ongoing SIR for Kakching district, Kakching DC/DEO, Angeline Renita R, stated that out of the 82,401 notices required to be generated, around 81,620 cases have been settled, with only about 138 cases remaining.
She added that 32,876 cases under other categories have also been settled without the need to generate notices.
With regards to the preparation of the electoral roll, she highlighted that efforts were made to ensure that all the eligible voters are included in the roll.
At the second review meeting, representatives of political parties raised queries on matters pertaining to the ongoing SIR and appreciated the support and dedication extended by the EROs in carrying out the revision process.
It may be mentioned that the draft electoral roll was published on July 5, 2026 and the period for filing claims and objections remained open from July 5 to August 4, 2026; while the disposal of claims and objections is being carried out from July 5 to September 2, 2026 .
The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on September 6, 2026 .
