Sit-in protest staged at Athokpam over post-delivery death

Thoubal, July 31 2025: Athokpam Meira Paibi Lup (AMPAL) staged a sit-in protest at Athokpam Bazar today, condemning the postdelivery death of a woman from Tekcham Mayai Leikai, which occurred at District Hospital Thoubal on July 28, 2025 .

During the protest, protesters held placards reading "We Want Justice" and demanded immediate action against the medical staff allegedly responsible for the incident.

A protester named Leimapokpi Leirenkoubi who took part in the protest expressed deep concern over the alleged medical negligence that led to the death of Samita.

She stated that the deceased had repeatedly complained of extreme tiredness and pain after the delivery, but her concerns were dismissed by the doctors and nurses, who reportedly said such pain was normal and left her unattended.

This alleged negligence ultimately resulted in her tragic death, said Leirenkoubi.

"Though having a district hospital is supposed to be a boon for the local population, the posting of inexperienced medical staff turns it into a place people fear," she added.

She further demanded that the doctors and nurses involved in Samita's case be held accountable and terminated from service.

AMPAL also extended its support to any future agitation led by the JAC formed in connection with the incident.
