Harms of tobacco products highlighted at World No Tobacco Day observance

As observed across the globe, District Health Society (DHS) Thoubal, National Tobacco Control Programme Thoubal and District Heart Society Thoubal jointly organised the observance ceremony of World No Tobacco Day 2024 at Sekmai Khumbi Higher Secondary School, Nokpok Sekmai today.
The programme was conducted under the aegis of National Health Mission under the theme of "Protecting children from tobacco industry interference".
Notable dignitaries at the event include Dr Y Nokul, Chief Medical Officer Thoubal; P Netu, Principal, Sekmai Khumbi Higher Secondary School; Dr Yengkhom Jotin, MO in-charge, Nongpok Sekmai PHC and Dr M Bikram, District Nodal Officer, NCD Cell Thoubal as the chief guest, functional president and guests of honour respectively.
Resource persons at the event spoke at length about the harms of tobacco use on human health as well as its dangerous implications in many other spheres.
They further pointed out that lack of exercise and consumption of unhealthy food causes a slew of diseases in human beings.
In order to maintain good health, it is everyone's duty to stop consumption of tobacco products and other harmful items.
As a part of the ceremony, a spot quiz competition was also conducted.
The dignitaries presented simple gifts to the students who gave correct answers.
District Health Society Thoubal's District Programme Manager Ch Basanta, staff, school teachers and students were present at the World No Tobacco Day observance ceremony.
Additionally "World No Tobacco Day" was also observed at CMO Office Conference Hall of Bishnupur Mini Secretariat with an awareness programme under the banner of "Tobacco free educational institutions" .
The programme was organised by Sangai Youth Tobacco Free and Educational Organisation (SYTFEO) Imphal in collaboration with District Tobacco Control Cell (DHS) CMO Bishnupur and Zonal Education Officer, Bishnupur with the support of State Health Mission (SHM)-NHM-NTCP, Government of India.
The event was graced by Dr L Raichandra, CMO Bishnupur; N Chingkhei Singh, ZEO Zone IV Bishnupur; Dr Haobam Danny Singh, District Nodal Officer NTCP, DHS, Bishnupur; Dr S Bimolakumari, Managing Director & Senior Advisor SYTFEO and Premjit Thokchom, president, SYTFEO.
Many principals and teachers from various schools across the district also participated in the awareness programme.
As a part of the event, the gathering collectively took an anti-tobacco pledge.
