Thoubal, July 30 2025:
MLA of Khangabok Assembly Constituency, today inspected the erosion prone areas of Thoubal river and the deteriorated road stretch of Thoubal Wangmataba Sorok Makha.
The inspection included laying the foundation stone for a new "Double Storey Public Stage cum Room" at the SSAWA (SSAWA) Ground of Thoubal Wangmataba Sorok Makha Leikai.
MLA Surjakumar also reviewed the annual maintenance expenditure for the deteriorated road stretch of Wangmataba Sorok Makha and assessed the overall condition of the stretch.
During the inspection, MLA Surjakumar stated that the Thoubal river erosion area is a sensitive zone with multiple highly vulnerable points.
"Over the past four to five years, projects proposed by IFCD and PWD, including retaining walls and water resource management, could not be executed due to lack of implementation," said Surjakumar.
As a precautionary measure, he announced steps to initiate bamboo piling to strengthen the embankments and prevent further erosion.
He appealed to the local community to extend support and cooperation, assuring that necessary engagements with department officials will be taken up to safeguard the vulnerable stretches.
"I have also sought advice from former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, a respected leader from the constituency, and we will move forward with these plans," he added.
