Imphal, March 30 2010: A meeting of the State Cabinet held today has given its nod to signing of an agreement to go ahead with the proposed tripartite peace talks involving the Centre, the State Government and the KCP-MC (Lallumba group).

The Cabinet has also given its approval on formulation of a policy to remove religious structures from public places.

According to a senior Cabinet Minister of the SPF Government, the meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi was held in the Cabinet Room at 10 am today.

After a detailed discussion, the meeting gave its nod to signing of an agreement ahead of the proposed tripartite peace talks involving the Centre, the State Government and KCP-MC Lallumba group.

The Cabinet also decided that Home Commissioner represent the State at the time of signing the agreement as well as during the peace talks, the senior Minister said, adding that under the sponsorship of the Union Home Ministry all the armed cadres who would surrender to the Government would be imparted training for three months outside Manipur.

Soon after the armed cadres of KCP-MC Lallumba group lay down their arms and surrender to the Government, they would be send for the said training programme, the Minister said, while informing that the meeting also gave its approval to housing surrendered cadres of KCP-MC (Lallumba group) at the campus of 8th MR in Leikun of Chandel district.

It may be noted that the UG group had accepted the two conditions of giving up arms and shunning violence laid before it by the Union home Ministry.

Accordingly, the Cabinet gave its nod to signing an agreement to proceed with the peace talks.

The Minister further informed that the meeting of the Cabinet had also discussed matter related to holding the peace talks at Imphal as far as possible.

With regard to the Supreme Court ruling against construction of religious structures in public places, today's Cabinet meeting decided to put in place a policy of the State Government in this regard.

Along with approving sanctioning of Rs 106 crores from SPA towards completion of Imphal Sewerage Project, the Cabinet recommended signing of an MoU between the French Government and the Chief Secretary and Commissioner PHE of the State with regard to further extension of the project period.

Moreover, the Cabinet has also given its approval to appointment of 17 guest lecturers in Pettigrew College, Ukhrul.

The guest lecturers to be appointed are Botany-3, Physics-3, Mathematics-3, Education-2, Sociology-2 and Geography-4 .

Approval has also been given to designating the former CJM, Imphal as CJM Imphal West and Additional CJM Imphal as CJM Imphal East as well as signing of an MoU to hand over the operation of the Central Dairy Plants at Porompat which is under the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry to All Manipur Milk Producers Co-operative Society.

Along with approving appointment of Dr S Birendra as the Special Secretary of State Patent Information Centre, which is under the Information Technology Department for a period of two years, the Cabinet has also given its nod to inclusion of OBC students in the scholarship being given by the Government to students of Sainik School.

Lastly, the Cabinet approved appointment of Mathang, Deputy Secretary (OSD), Education (S) Department as the Deputy Secretary on contract.
