MNYO, NWU condemn Ocean Lounge incident

The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation, Headquarters (MNYO-HQ) has vehemently condemned the unfortunate incident that took place on July 26 at The Ocean Lounge in Khuman Lampak opposite ISBT Imphal were armed miscreants opened fired and assaulted a woman and several others.
In a release, MNYO said that 8 people were injured in the incident of which one got hospitalized due to gunshot wounds.
"Such incidents of targeted violence and harassment towards shops employees in an area around Imphal valley happening frequently.
If such violence, harassment and intimidation continue toward the Naga minority community in the Manipur valley area, it will directly hurt the last remaining well intertwined social fabric nurtured through ages in the given volatile situation", it added.
The MNYO asserted the continuous harassment and intimidation by armed militants has created a fear psychosis among the people and urged all concerned to not repeat such acts in the future.
The MNYO also appealed to the State Government to take up befitting stringent legal action against those armed miscreants involved in the incident at The Ocean Lounge.
Meanwhile, the Naga Women's Union (NWU) while condemning the July 26 The Ocean Lounge incident has written to the Director General of Police, Manipur demanding justice.
In a letter addressed to the DGP of Manipur, the NWU demanded immediate action and befitting punishment to the perpetrators of the tragic incident.
Seeking the immediate attention of the DGP, the NUW said, "The brutal and unrelenting attack was targeted at members of the Naga community, resulting in severe physical and psychological trauma to the victims and the Nagas community".
Expressing serious concern over the increasing occurrence of violence to the community, the NWO said that the particular incident not only highlighted the vulnerability of the Naga communities but also underscored the urgent need for a thorough and impartial investigation and transparent communication with the public regarding the progress and findings of the investigation to ensure justice is served.
In light of the distressing events, the NWU earnestly requested the DGP to take immediate and stringent action against the perpetrators adding the accused must be brought to justice swiftly to restore the Naga community's faith in the legal system and to deter any future incidents of such nature.
"The swift and decisive action by the police will restore the faith in the law enforcing agencies among the public", said NWU.
