CPI holds conferences at Moirang, Thoubal

Moirang/Thoubal, March 29 2026: The Communist Party of India (CPI) held its local conferences at Moirang and Thoubal on Sunday, adopting a series of resolutions focused on restoring peace in Manipur, resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs), and strengthening governance.

The 56th Local Conference of CPI Moirang Local Council was held at Pramoda Shanglen, Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district.

The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by CPI Manipur State Council executive member, Kumam Bimol Singh.

Key resolutions adopted during the conference included pressing for the restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur, immediate resettlement of IDPs, safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur, ensuring good governance, and conducting Census only after proper identification of illegal immigrants.

The council also demanded restoration of free movement along national highways and early conduct of local body elections.

The conference further elected a new seven-member executive committee for the local council, with Inaobi Meitei as secretary, Ph Dinesh Singh as assistant secretary, and Kh Radhe Devi as treasurer.

Meanwhile, the 38th Local Conference of CPI Thoubal Local Council was convened at the residence of Ak Deben at Thoubal Wangmataba Mayai Leikai.

The conference began with hoisting of the party flag by veteran communist leader Ak Jugeshwar.

The event was attended by several senior CPI leaders, including MSCCPI, Chairman Control Commissioner Dr M Nara; MSCCPI Asst Secretary S Sorojini; veteran member W Lukhoi; senior party member Dr Ksh Manglem; and CPI Thoubal Local Council secretary I Khetra.

A minute's silence was observed in honour of departed party members and comrades.

The conference also witnessed presentation and deliberation of organisational and political reports, along with the election of new local council members.

Resolutions adopted at the Thoubal conference echoed similar concerns, including restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur, early resettlement of IDPs, protection of the State's territorial integrity, and restoration of free movement along national highways.

The conference also resolved to oppose the conduct of Census before proper identification of illegal immigrants.

Additionally, the gathering called for an early end to the ongoing Iran-America conflict.
