Imphal, March 29 2018:
Informing that five non-local men have been found selling goods among local women vendors along Naga Nala, JCILPS' Women Wing has asked the Government not to allow non-local males to mingle with women vendors at Khwairamband area.
Speaking to media persons in JCILPS' head office at Kwakeithel, Tiddim Road, its women wing convenor S Memcha Leima asserted that Manipuri women vendors at various locations of Khwairamband Keithel are not feeling secure as many male non-locals are mingling and selling goods beside them.
She conveyed that the five non-locals whom they found today confided that they are allowed to sell their merchandises there by traffic police personnel.
Noting that police personnel who are on duty at Khwairamband Keithel use to chase local street women vendors, seize their goods and even impose fines, Memcha further condemned that many non-locals are being allowed to vend their products on the streets of Khwairamband.
She then drew the attention of the Government and authorities concerned to look into the matter and immediately take up steps not to allow any male non-local vendors to mingle with Manipuri women vendors at different locations of Khwairamband Keithel.
She also urged the Government to bring out a Bill to prevent the influx of non-locals into the State and protect the indigenous people.
