Imphal, June 26 2025:
Nupi Samaj president Thokchom Ramani has categorically stated that all the issues of Manipur must be resolved by the people of the State, not by outsiders.
The All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj or Nupi Samaj celebrated its 50th foundation day at Iroisemba community hall.
Speaking at the event which started by observing two-minute silence in honour of the women bravehearts of the State and offering floral tributes to the departed leaders of Nupi Samaj, Ramani pointed out that Manipur is now passing through a very critical phase.
She then called upon all the youth and intellectuals to focus on saving Manipur.
She went on to ask, "Who will save our motherland, if not us?" She also recalled how the Nisha Bandh movement started in Manipur with the primary objective of protecting the youth from intoxicating substances and the resultant violence in the society.
Nupi Samaj general secretary Pangeijam Sobita said that a large number of Manipuri youth became addicted to drugs not long after Manipur was merged into the Indian Union.
As a result, crime rate and incidents of violence rose rapidly both at the family and societal levels, she said.
Since the days of the Nisha Bandh movement, Nupi Samaj has been fighting all major issues at the forefront.
Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) president Lourembam Nganbi Leima, All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup president Y Momon Leima, UCM president YK Dhiren and Iroisemba Lourembam Leikai Nisha Bandh Association president S Ibemnungshi attended the event as presidium members.
