Imphal, February 26 2025:
An assessment camp for senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) was held today at Konthoujam Mamang Leikai Community Hall, Imphal West district.
The assessment camp was organised by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur in collaboration with Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Takyel; Justice Committee on Anglo Manipur War 1891 and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak, Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Committee chairman Joychandra Konthoujam said that the assessment camp was conducted for identification and distribution of aids & assistive devices to PwDs and senior citizens under ADIP and RVY schemes.
He expressed anguish over the prevailing political situation in the State following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh and the imposition of President' Rule in Manipur.
"In the midst of the Manipur crisis where thousands of people have been uprooted from their homes and hundreds more have lost their lives, the Opposition and ruling party should unite to work out a solution instead of engaging in a political game", he added.
Highlighting that the people of Manipur have been suffering for nearly two years due to the conflict, he said, "Blockade imposed on national highways has hindered the supply of essential goods to Imphal while illegal taxation and extortion have further exacerbated the hardships faced by the people".
He asserted that the people of Manipur must question the actions of those in power and hold them accountable for resolving the crisis.
Emphasizing the importance of electing genuine leaders who will work for the welfare of the State, he urged the people to recognize the truth and focus on rebuilding the State rather than being misled.
Furthermore, Joychandra Konthoujam appealed to the people and civil society organisations to come together to safeguard the Meitei community and territorial integrity of Manipur.
