Tamenglong, August 23 2026:
The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), Kamson Group, has called upon the Zeliangrong community to observe the 95th Martyrs' Day of Haipou Jadonang on August 29 across all Zeliangrong-inhabited areas.
In a press communique issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity, the ZUF said the day commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Haipou Jadonang, a freedom fighter and spiritual, social and cultural reformer who attained martyrdom at Imphal Jail in 1931 at the age of 26.The ZUF stated that Jadonang had envisioned a self-governing homeland for the Zeliangrong people and dedicated his life to their freedom, faith and unity.
To honour his sacrifice, the ZUF appealed to Zeliangrong organisations, village councils, student bodies, church leaders, women's organisations and the public to observe the day peacefully and meaningfully.
It called upon all Luangdimai to close their village gates, the public and private institutions and business establishments.
The ZUF also appealed to every household to light candles or lamps in front of their homes at 6 pm and observe one minute of silence in memory of Haipou Jadonang.
Even after 95 years, Haipou Jadonang still lives in our hearts.
His sacrifice is our identity," the ZUF said, adding that his dream of a united and disciplined Zeliangrong society should be fulfilled.
