Cops get custody of hubby, recover knife

Imphal, June 23 2025:
Porompat police on Monday produced Md Mujibur Rahman (45), who was detained in connection with the death of his wife Seema Shahni, before the court of Imphal East duty magistrate, which remanded him to 10 days in police custody for further interrogation.
Meanwhile, police have recovered a knife (heijrang), suspected to have been used in the crime, from the kitchen of the deceased woman's house.
According to a police report, on the intervening night of June 21 and 22, Seema Shani's throat was found slit while she was asleep at Keikhu Maning Leikai house.
Seema succumbed to the injuries on the way to hospital.
Porompat PS subsequently registered a case in connection with the death and launched an investigation.
A team of forensic experts also inspected the crime scene.
Seema's husband Md Mujibur was picked up on Sunday itself.
While police were initially unable to locate the weapon likely to have been used in committing the crime on Sunday, they later managed to recover and seize a kitchen knife (heijrang), suspected to be the murder weapon, from the kitchen of the house after questioning Md Mujibur.
Police are still investigating to determine and identify any other culprit(s) involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, the post mortem examination of Seema's body has been completed.
On the other hand, the JAC against the brutal murder of Khullakpam Seema Shahni' staged a sit-in protest at Khergao Awang Leikai on Monday, demanding justice in the case.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, JAC convenor SA Malik termed Seema's murder as the most barbaric and demanded the culprit(s) involved be arrested within 48 hours, adding that the body would not be claimed until justice is delivered.
The convenor further demanded strict legal action against all involved in the murder.
