Imphal, June 23 2024:
The Wangkhei Kendra Peace Committee (WKPC) has reached out to denizens of Jiribam who are taking refuge at Jiribam Sports Complex given the tense situation in the district with relief materials, today.
Speaking to the media by the sideline, chairman of WKPC RK Gokulchandra said that there is no sign of Centre and the State Government putting any sincere effort to restore normalcy in the State.
He also said that the Kuki-Zo narco terrorists have to tender an aplology to the Meeteis for all the wrongs they have done if the violence is to be stopped and focus on restoring peace.
A six member team of WKPC visited the three relief camps set up at Jiribam Sports Complex and distributed potato, onion, milk, cooking oil and other edible items for the inmates.
Gokulchandra continued that the response being shown by the State Government to the violence in Manipur is not satisfying.
He also said that Manipur is being run by the Centre through a remote control.
The State Government led by Chief Minister N Biren exists only for formality and there is no rule of law in the State, Gokulchandra added.
He further said that the Government can always remove the Security Advisor if he couldn't do his job.
Convenor of WKPC Naorem Mahendra, on the other hand, said that they were disheartened on seeing the condition of the people at the relief camps.
He also said that Jiribam AC MLA Ashab Uddin not doing anything to help the displaced people till today is very unfortunate and appealed to all the legislators and prominent people to visit Jiribam and help the displaced people instead of talking tough on media all the time.
Meetei will definitely become very weak if Kuki narco terrorists occupy Jiribam, Mahendra said.
Saying that the security measures being taken up in Jiribam is not satisfying, he added that Jiribam will meet the similar fate as that of Moreh and Churachandpur if no movement is initiated to protect Jiribam.
