Imphal, June 23: There are 28 bridges construction works of which had started but remaining incomplete, said Works minister Th Debendra during question hour on the opening day of the assembly session today.

Responding to queries raised by MLA M Nilachandra, the Works Minister informed the House of the State Government making all out effort to complete the bridges through various funding heads.

When Khurai constituency MLA N Bihari inquired when will construction work of Lamlong and Salanthong bridges commence, Th Debendra replied that construction activities of the Rs 3.47 crore Lamlong bridge had already started while the Salanthong bridge estimated to cost around Rs 2.45 crore would begin after the monsoon season is over.

The Works Minister also charged contractors concerned of lethargy when MLAs L Tomba and m Nilachandra demanded reasons for non-completion of the four kilometre long Thoubal-Mayang Imphal road stretch, Thoubal Melaground-Iroipat road, Thoubal-Yairipok road and Thoubal Melaground-Phouden road stretch.

Hastening to add that Government had set target for completion of these roads within September month, the Minister also informed the House of around Rs 34.55 lakhs likely to be needed for construction of the Thoubal Melaground-Iroipat road stretch.

Regarding the Thoubal-Yairipok road which is .700 kilometre the Minister pegged the construction cost at Rs 9.87 lakhs.

To another poser from Thangminlien Kipgen, the Minister asserted that Executive Engineer (Sadar Hills) is functioning at full steam.

PHE Minister Govindas Konthoujam replying to N Bihari while deliberating on public health matter cited fund crunch as the primary factor for delay in completing the Kangla Sangomshang Water supply scheme which was started in 1999 while conveying to the Khurai AC MLA of set target for the scheme completion within the current financial year.

Discussion on the power situation in the State Minister Gaikhangam informed Heirok legislator N Sovakiran of Leimakhong heavy Fuel Power Project currently producing 36,000 power units per hour.

The Power Minister further detailed of installing six engines at the Leimakhong project which was commissioned by the President of India APJ Abdul Kalam in October 2002.Each of the six engines with capacity of churning 6000 power units are not fully functional, he added.

Highlighting State Government objective to maximise power supply Gaikhangam informed that plans are afoot for expeditious completion of transmission line from Leimakhong till Iroisemba by March next year and full operation of the power engines.
