Interaction programme on 'Rebuilding pig farming in Manipur' conducted

Manipur Progressive Pig Farmers Association (MAPPFA) organised an interaction programme on "Rebuilding Pig Farming in Manipur: Challenges and Opportunities of Pig Farming in Manipur" at Imphal Public Library, Uripok Sorbon Thingel today.

Manipur Regional Office, Imphal, GM/OIC (officer-in charge), Partha Mandal; Manipur State Co-operative Bank Ltd (MSCB), DGM, L Angouba Singh; NABARD, Manipur Regional Office, Imphal, DDM Imphal West, Kirankumar Thokchom; KVK Senapati, SMS (Animal sciences), Dr Nongthombam Muhindro Singh; Manipur Rural Bank, HO, Sr Manager, Laishram Roshan and MAPPFA, president, Ningthoujam Lokendro as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, MAPPFA joint secretary L Vidyasagar said that the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) last year had severely affected the pig farmers of the State.
He asserted that more than 10,000 pigs died to the ASF leading to a devastating loss of about Rs 30 Crore.
He continued that pig farmers have not received any assistance so far despite the assurances given by the Government to compensate the farmers whose pigs perished due to the AFS.
Vidyasagar expressed hope that the programme will help the farmers get valuable information about different schemes and loans from the-officials of MSCB, Rural Bank and NABARD.
Later, a discussion was conducted on various topics such as farming practices, challenges and opportunities in pig farming, etc.
About 90 pig farmers from across the State took part in the interaction programme.
