Gwaltabi incident: NPC demands clarification, threatens to boycott Government activities

The Ningthoukhong Protection Committee (NPC) has issued an ultimatum to the Government to issue a clarification to the people of the State regarding the recent Gwaltabi incident of May 20.Notably, a group of journalists who were travelling to attend the 5th Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul were forcibly instructed to remove the word "Manipur" from a MSRTC bus by Central security personnel.
The ultimatum was set by the Ningthoukhong Protection Committee during a public meeting held at Ningthoukhong Bazar organised by the NPC.
The meeting was attended by NPC president, L Gouragopal, Apunba Lup president, IS Konthoujam, Retd Headmaster and National awardee Asem Ibobi, Ningthoukhong Municipal Council, ex-chairperson K Mani, United Women Development Organization, advisor Th Mombi and S Memshaki as presidium members.
During the meeting, the gathering resolved to demand the Governor to issue a public apology and a clarification within 24 hours on the true motive behind halting the journalists and forcing them to remove the word "Manipur" from a bus and to condemn the Gwaltabi incident.
The meeting also resolved to demand the resignation of the Governor, Chief Secretary and Security Advisor within 48 hours in view of the order allegedly issued by the PR Government as a result of which the Mahar Regiment instructed the journalists' team to conceal the word "Manipur" from the State Transport bus.
If the Government fails to meet the demands laid down by the Committee, it will boycott all Government activities accompanied with intense forms of agitation, the NPC said.
The meeting further resolved to submit a memorandum of the agendas to the authorities concerned with collective support from the clubs, organisations, CSOs, Meira Paibis of Ningthoukhong area.
After the meeting, the gathering shouted slogans demanding apology from the Governor, implementation of NRC in Manipur, protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur etc at Ningthoukhong Bazar.
