Thoubal, August 21 2024:
River water levels are reportedly dropping steadily in Thoubal after the district witnessed flooding in many regions following incessant rainfall.
The flooding caused by the overflow of Nongdambi River at Kairembikhok village under Wangjing Tentha AC has been remedied by digging out the drainage system using heavy machinery thereby making the flood waters flow out.
However, commuters are still facing inconveniences in travelling.
Today school children in Kairembikhok village remained home while the only Government school in the village was also closed.
Meanwhile, social worker Kshetrimayum Priyobarta visited Ingourok to inspect the condition of Ingourok River and discovered a huge blockage along the branch of the river which joins Thoubal River via Nongpok Sekmai.
With the help of the local people, the obstruction was cleared and the river water flowed freely thereafter.
The water level of Ingourok River has also dropped following the social worker's dedicated efforts to help mend breaches along the Ingourok River since yesterday and the opening of dam shutters built above the river.
Meanwhile, rising water level at Lousi Pat has flooded many homes.
Ningsing Lup Tekcham members have retrieved household articles from the flooded houses.
Arrangements are being made to shift the flood affected people to the local school while the domestic animals will be shifted to the committee hall.
