Imphal, May 21 2013:
While expressing collateral opinion on the demand for implementing Inner Line Permit (ILP) System in the State to check influx of migrant workers, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has cautioned the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Inner Line Permit in Manipur not to indulge in any anti-national activity during the course of its agitation.
The Chief Minister was talking to media persons on the sidelines of 22nd Death Anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, which was observed as "Anti-Terrorism Day" at Congress Bhavan here today.
Ibobi further said that the State Legislative Assembly had already passed and submitted a resolution to the Central government for implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State.
The State government has also been pressing the Central leaders in this regard, he asserted.
He appealed to the JAC not to cause any disturbance to the movement of non-Manipuris within the State, and exhorted the people to refrain from the path of terrorism and take up good things for the State.
Further, asserting that the State Government is striving to bring equitable development in both hill and valley regions without any discrimination, the Chief Minister appealed to the Kuki Students' Organization (KSO) to call off its proposed general strike.
He also assured that the State government would look into the reservation policy of recruitment of police personnel under the Home Department.
Ibobi further mentioned that there is provision for conversion of State Highways into six-lane highways, and added that the evictees of Kabo Leikai are not entitled to land compensation as they do not possess any relevant document.
However, the State government has provided some assistance to the evictees on humanitarian ground.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, other Ministers, MLAs and workers of the Congress Party attended the observance of Anti-Terrorism Day by paying floral tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
