LAAMAN Thang-Ta celebrates 42nd Foundation Day

Living Arts Academy Manipuri (LAAMAN) Thang-Ta observed its 42nd Foundation Day at NEINASANG Community Hall, Tera Loukrakpam Leikai today.
The programme was graced by dignitaries, including Prof Paonam Gunindro, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture; Angom Poireiton, Angom Ningthou Sana Konung, Manipur and Makhonmani Mongsaba, retired Assistant Professor, Manipur University of Culture.
The celebration began with a prayer to Ibuthou Pakhangba followed by offering of floral tributes to deceased Thang-Ta Sintakpurel (teachers) of the academy.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Paonam Gunindro said that Thang-Ta is a traditional art form which is deeply intertwined with Manipuri culture and spirituality.
He also lauded the numerous contributions made by LAAMAN Thang-Ta towards the preservation and promotion of Thang-Ta.
Chungkham Sunilkumar, principal of LAAMAN Thang-Ta, said that since its inception in 1983, the academy has been working earnestly to promote the indigenous culture and traditions of the State so that its legacy will be carried forth to coming generations for a strong and developed society.
Highlighting that Thang-Ta holds great significance to the history and culture of Manipur, he said, "It was through Thang-Ta that Manipuris were able to maintain, conquer or defend their motherland for centuries but sadly the present generation has not been able to take advantage of the artform properly" .
Furthermore, Chungkham Sunilkmar emphasized the need for collective effort to safeguard, preserve and promote the art forms left behind by ancestors.
