From day one of its establishment in 2001, the Eden Orphan Home at Lanai in western junction of Ukhrul district has been running successfully without any assistance from the Government and other related agencies.
The 7th raising day of the home for destitute children was celebrated today.
At present, there are in all 58 children including 13 girls in the home being run mainly under the supervision of RM Sangreingam and his wife RM Tanmila.
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the raising day celebration of the orphanage, the couple informed that the Eden Orphan Home was set up in 2001 specially to take care of the needs of the destitute children in the district.
Inspite of the initial difficulties they faced in running the home, now it has grown and the number of inmates increased.
Now there are in all 58 children in the home and six teachers are being appointed paying Rs 1500 each as their monthly salary to educate the children.
Of the three orphan homes in Ukhrul district, they said Eden Orphan Home is the only one which has not received any sort of assistance from the Government and other related agencies.
However, along with registering it under the Co-operative Societies Act in 2005, they have approached the Government and other related authorities for extending grant to the home.
However, no positive response have been ever received in this regard till date, they lamented.
During the raising day celebration held at the campus of the home, the young inmates presented song to welcome the invitees and other visitors.
