Water Resources Minister inaugurates 3rd General Conference of SDWA

Water Resources, Relief & Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai inaugurated the 3rd General Conference of the Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) here on Saturday.
The event was held under the theme, "Women of Optimism" and was graced by J Kumo Sha, MLA, 47-Karong AC as the chief host.
The cultural session of the SDWA General Conference was attended by Mao AC MLA L Dikho and Daphya Reihpao, social activist.
Koshoni Phimu Dy Secy, GAD/MA/MI/SW/CAD, spoke on the topic, "Cultural impact on women today".
Addressing the gathering, Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai said that women play a big role in the society and they are beacon of peace.
They make home and are caring.
They can even stop war, he added.
He called for women empowerment and urged all to send every girl child to schools and encouraged them to pursue higher studies.
MLA Kumo Sha in his speech expressed happiness that women today have stood up for their rights.
Today, women's voices have become vital, Kumo added.
Gangmei Ganguilu, Joint Secretary, Social Welfare, Govt of Manipur, spoke as the resource person at the event.
Gangmei Ganguilu said that the Senapati District Women's Association was founded by a group of women consisting of the indigenous tribes of Mao, Maram.
Poumai, Thangal and Zeliangrong in the year 1994 with the objective of empowering women, fight injustice and atrocities being meted out to women folk and innocent civilians by armed personnel.
The resource person also spoke on the importance of imparting education to every girl child for all round development.
RN Hannah, president of SDWA, led a special prayer condoling the demise of its first president at the beginning of the programme.
In the cultural session, MLA L Dikho lauded womenfolk for their contributions toward the society and stated that the State's economy will improve when women are actively involved in all economic activities.
Different cultural items and indigenous games of 5 major tribes of Senapati district including the Mao, Maram, Poumai, Thangal and Zeliangrong were showcased during the cultural session.
