Sericulture Krishi Mela / Exhibition held

Sericulture Krishi Mela cum Exhibition was held at the Regional Sericulture Research Station today.
The mela cum exhibition was organised by the Regional Sericulture Research Station, Central Silk Board under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
A total of thirteen stalls participated in the exhibition and three farmers were awarded acknowledging their significant contributions in the field of sericulture.
Today's function was graced by Director of Sericulture, L Geetchandra, Director of the Central Tasar Research and Training Institute, Ranchi (Jharkhand) Dr K Sathyanarayan and Director of the Central Muga Eri Research & Training Institute, Lahdoigarh, Jorhat (Assam),Dr KM Vijaya Kumari as the presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, L Geetchandra assured that the Sericulture Department will provide all possible help to the farmers who are working earnestly to produce silk and are into silkworm rearing.
He also stressed on the importance of having proper knowledge of planting mulberry trees and how to rear silkworms for large scale production of silk.
With the invention of modern methods and machinery, extracting silk is no more a tedious process, he added.
Stating that sincere and dedicated efforts by the farmers is a must in the field of sericulture, he opined that large scale production of silk products will uplift the State's economy considerably and called for concerted efforts to promote sericulture and its allied activities.
During the technical session held as a part of the programme, Scientists, Dr L Somen Singh spoke on 'Host Plant Management', Dr Y Debaraj on 'Silkworm Rearing Technology' while Dr S Subharani Devi spoke on 'Silkworm Disease Management' .
Later an interaction session with the farmers was also held.
