Summer Theatre Workshop kicks off

A 15 Days Summer Theatre Workshop (for mental health development) for children of the age group 8-16 years kicked off today at the relief camp opened in Manipur Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong.
The workshop was organised by National School of Drama (TIE-Wing), Tripura in collaboration with Khenjonglang (a centre for theatre, research, production and community welfare) and Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur.
The inaugural function was graced by Social Welfare Department, Director, Ngangom Uttam; Manipur Trade & Expo Centre Relief Camp, in-charge H Ningthem; Temporary Shelter Home, Sajiwa Central Jail Complex Relief Camp, secretary, Puthem Basanta Singh and president P Romio Koireng as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Theatre Director Dr S Thanil Leima said that a workshop was conducted for children staying in die relief camp and will focus on Theatre in Education (TIE).
She asserted that TIE is a process that uses interactive theatre/drama practices to help aid the educational process.
"TIE uses theatre for purposes beyond entertainment.
It involves three main processes namely self, family, education and society", she added.
Highlighting that TIE is a new concept in Manipur, Dr S Thanil Leima shared that TIE will use theatre to provide moral, spiritual & intellectual education to the children.
She also expressed hope that the workshop will bring positivity and divert the minds of the children from the prevailing tense situation of Manipur.
She continued that about 120 children are participating in the workshops which are being conducted at the relief camps opened in Manipur Trade & Expo Centre and Temporary Shelter Home, Sajiwa Central Jail Complex.
Further, Dr S Thanil Leima announced that necessary arrangements will be made to conduct similar workshops in schools and relief camps opened across the State soon.
