A week long Regional Art workshop organised by the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur in collaboration with the North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur was opened today at the Kangla guest house by noted artist Th Tombi.
The inaugural function was grace also by Padmashree awardee Ratan Thiyam among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Director of Art and Culture Department Dr Kh Sarojini said that the basic objective of the workshop is to inculcate news ideas to the artistes of the region and to enable them appreciate the art forms of other places.
Th Tombi observed that all the Northeastern States have their own distinct cultural identities and unique cultural concepts.
The workshop being participated by artistes belonging to different States will provide an opportunity to the artistes of the region to exchange their views.
Renowned theatre activist Ratan Thiyam remarked that art is not everybody's cup of tea.
Any individual cannot become an artiste because he wants to, he said.
Even if a person is able to produce a piece of a fine artistic work, he/she cannot be called an artistes.
Art per se is a very complex faculty.
In many cases, it takes a life time for a man to understand art in its true sense, noted Ratan Thiyam.
The workshop is being participated by many artistes from the States of Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur.
