Sit-in protests continue in Jiribam, Bishnupur over Tronglaobi bomb attack

The Jiri United Committee (JUC), Manipur, an apex body formed by various associations and civil society organisations of Jiribam district, along with local residents, staged a sit-in protest demonstration on Wednesday in front of Congress Bhavan at Babupara, Jiribam, condemning the inhumane bomb attackat Tronglaobi that claimed the lives of a toddler and a five-year-old boy.
The protest witnessed participation from members of several CSOs and concerned citizens, who expressed strong outrage over the killing of innocent children.
Demonstrators held placards bearing slogans demanding a military crackdown against alleged Kuki narco-terrorists, withdrawal of Central security forces from Manipur, and an immediate halt to the policies of the Government of India that threaten indigenous communities of the State.
The protesters also called for stringent punishment for those responsible for the attack and demanded action against personnel of the CRPF allegedly involved in killing of civilians.
They further urged the State forces be allowed to function without interference.
Placards with inscriptions such as "Stop Proxy War", "Narendra Modi Down Down", "Amit Shah Down Down", "Narendra Modi, Where's Your Humanity", "We Want Peace", "We Want Justice" were also used by protesters.
Meanwhile, in Kwakta Sandhong Makha Leikai, residents staged a sit-in protest condemning the Tronglaobi incident demanding capital punishment for those involved in the attack.
The protest was jointly organised by the Sandhong Youth Welfare Association and Sandhong Makha Leikai Meira Paibi Lup.
Protesters used placards with messages such as "Arrest Those Involved in Killing Children", "We Want Justice," "We Condemn Killing of Children," "We Condemn the Acts of Kuki-Narco Terrorist", were used.
Taking part in the protest, a young girl appealed for the protection of children and strongly condemned the killing of innocent lives, stating that children who do not understand the meaning of conflict should not become its victims.
A Meira Paibi activist also criticised the governments' failure to act transparently against those responsible for the Tronglaobi incident, demanding the identities of the suspected perpetrators who were said to be arrested by security forces be made public and that they be awarded capital punishment as per law.
She further called for legal action against CRPF personnel allegedly involved in the firing that resulted in the death of three civilians and asserted that the people of Sandhong would support any form of agitation launched by the people of Manipur.
