KNO dissuades Kukis from attending 'reconciliation' meet

Imphal, November 14 2013: The Kuki National Organisation (KNO) has advised all Kuki people of Chandel district to refrain from attending the alleged concocted Kuki Peoples' Forum invitation regarding the 'Kuki-Naga Reconciliation Day celebration' to be held on Nov 16 at District Sports Complex, Christian Village of Chandel.

A statement issued by Stephen Kuki, Under Secretary, Information & Publicity (KNO) said the KNO always stood for settlement of Kuki people's and other communities' rights for bringing about peace and development ushered in by mutual dignity and respect.

Despite the genocide of the Kuki people from 1992-1997 by the NSCNIM , in true Christian teaching of 'turning the other cheek', the KNO proposed an MoU with concrete and specific measures regarding reconciliation of the two Christian communities, Kuki and Naga, it said.

Rather than following on their own tenet 'Nagaland for Christ', NSCN (IM) has resorted to their usual subversive method to gain control of Chandel District through the United Kuki Liberation Front, which is unfathomably aligned to them.

On this occasion they have fabricated 'Kuki Peoples (Sic) Forum' to organise 'Kuki-Naga Reconciliation Day Celebration to be held on Saturday Nov 16, 2013 at District Sports Complex Christian village at 9am sharp, the KNO statement said.

For the benefit of the Kuki and Naga communities, who may cherish real and lasting reconciliation, it is important to recall that in 1994 the Kuki Inpi and United Naga Council, both legitimate representatives of their respective peoples, held a reconciliatory meeting at Manipur Baptist Convention in Imphal.

However, the Kuki Inpi and United Naga Council resolution for 'peace and reconciliation' was nullified because the NSCN (IM), on the part of the Nagas, did not accept it.

Furthermore, following the meeting at Manipur Baptist Convention, Nagas abducted the vice-president of Kuki Inpi and after three days his beheaded body packed in a gunny bag was discovered in a pond, it pointed out.

Therefore, today, or whenever, if there is to be reconciliation of Kuki and Naga peoples: a) the two legitimate bodies, Kuki Inpi and United Naga Council must represent the two communities, Kuki and Naga; b) KNO and NSCN-IM must endorse the resolutions of peace and reconciliation passed by Kuki Inpi and United Naga Council, it stated.

Again, for the benefit of the Kuki and Naga peoples in favour of true reconciliation, it is pertinent to be aware that preceding the 'Kuki Peoples Forum' invitation, the UKLF invited 260-odd Kuki chieftains at Sugunu on Nov 4 - 5, 2003.On the 4th, sermons in the name of God were given to the chieftains; on the 5th they were made to put their signatures on blank paper.

The sinister nature of the proceedings is clear evidence of what is intended: it is self-evident that NSCN (IM) wishes to project to the Government of India, with whom they have been in political dialogue (and perhaps a settlement of sorts in nigh), that they have made peace with the Kuki people.

By convincing GoI, NSCN (IM), with the same brush stroke wishes to 'capture' Chandel, rather than relinquish their claim to the one hundred per-cent ethnic Kuki inhabited district, the KNO pointed out.

Condemning such acts, the KNO therefore advised all true Kukis to stand up to deceptive exercise while also urging them to refrain from attending the meeting summoned by 'puppets' of the enemy.
