Imphal, August 14 2026: Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand and several others have greeted the people on the eve of the 80th Independence Day.

Independence Day is a moment to honour the countless freedom fighters and martyrs whose sacrifices secured "our Nation's freedom".

Their courage, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to the ideals of liberty, equality, and justice remain the foundation of "our democracy", said Ajay Kumar Bhalla in a message to the people.

"As we celebrate this historic occasion, let us renew our resolve to strengthen National unity, uphold the Constitution, and contribute wholeheartedly to the progress and prosperity of our Nation.

Together, we must strive to build a peaceful, inclusive, and developed India while ensuring that Manipur continues to move forward on the path of stability, growth, and social harmony," Bhalla said, wishing the people of Manipur "good health, happiness, and prosperity" .

In his message, Yumnam Khemchand said, "As we celebrate the 80th Independence Day of our country, let us reaffirm our commitment to the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity enshrined in our Constitution" .

"Manipur, with its rich cultural heritage, vibrant traditions and resilient people, has always made invaluable contributions to the Nation.

As we move forward, let us work together with renewed determination to restore lasting peace, strengthen mutual trust and create an environment where every citizen can live with dignity, security and equal opportunity.

United in purpose, we can build a stronger, more prosperous and progressive Manipur," Khemchand said.

Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata and several others too greeted the people.
