MSCW concludes 'Mahila Jan Sunwai', empowering women across 5 districts

Imphal, March 13 2026: The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in a joint initiative with the National Commission for Women (NCW), has successfully concluded a week-long "Mahila Jan Sunwai" (public hearing for women) programme across five districts in the State.

The initiative, organised to commemorate International Women's Day, aimed at ensuring swift grievance resolution and strengthening grassroots access to justice for women.

The programme, which ran from March 9 to 13, 2026, witnessed significant participation from women across the districts.

Participants came forward to seek assistance on various issues affecting their safety, rights, and dignity.

Public hearings were conducted at the following locations- Imphal West at Kombirei Hall, DC Office Complex, Lamphelpat on March 9; Imphal East at EYCA Community Hall, Porompat on March 10; Thoubal at Counting Hall, DC Office Complex on March 11; Tengnoupal at Khunbi Community Hall on March 12; and Chandel at Multipurpose Hall, DC Office Complex on March 13.During the course of the hearings, a total of 31 complaints were received, all of which were heard on the spot.

The Commission facilitated immediate resolution or disposal in all 31 walk-in cases.

Immediate notices were issued in 6 cases, while the concerned police department was given direction for inquiries in police-related matters.

Counselling assistance was extended to complainants by legal experts and counsellors, and legal aid facilitation was initiated whenever necessary to ensure swift justice delivery.

The initiative reaffirmed the commission's commitment to accessible and time-bound grievance redressal for women.
