Handloom mela starts

Imphal, January 13 2025:
Many stalls displaying handloom and handicraft items from the State are participating in the Gandhi Bunkar Mela (National Handloom Expo 2025) which kicked off today at Handloom Haat in Janpath, New Delhi.
Notably, the National Handloom Expo 2025 was organised by the Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd and sponsored by the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom), Ministry of Textiles.
The event was inaugurated by Dr M Beena, Development Commissioner for Handloom, Ministry of Textiles; Arunkumar Sinha, Principal Secretary, Manipur Textiles, Commerce & Industry and E Jiten Singh, Managing Director, Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd.
Over 300 weavers and artisans from Jammu & Kashmir to Kerala and Tamil Nadu and from Manipur to Gujarat are taking part in the National Handloom Expo 2025 .
Speaking in this connection, E Jiten said that the expo was formally inaugurated today though display and sale of items began on January 11 .
He added that the Gandhi Bunkar Mela will promote the textiles, handloom and handicraft products of the State and improve the economic condition of weavers in Manipur.
The expo will conclude on January 24 .
